Biographical information
Personal life
Williams and his three siblings were born in Georgia and later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a youth, Williams was interested in drama and music, beginning at church, but he did not intend to pursue acting as a career. After high school, Williams planned to take pre-med courses at the University of Tulsa (TU). His interest in music and drama never waned and eventually he changed career paths. Williams completed his bachelor's degree in theatrical studies at TU, starring in the play Sweeney Todd in the process, and later obtained a Master of Fine Arts in acting from the Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, where he studied under William Esper. Williams lives in Texas with his wife and daughter.
Career
Williams began his acting career at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park in The Taming of the Shrew alongside Morgan Freeman and Tracey Ullman, and also had a role with Denzel Washington in Richard III. He continued with performances on and off Broadway and toured nationally in productions such as Guys and Dolls, Les Misérables, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Ragtime, and Show Boat.
