The underground earthbending fighter was a participant in illegal bending matches in Yu Dao, fighting for prize money.

History

One night, she fought in an illegal bending match in Yu Dao in a ramshackle building. She teased her opponent, a young earthbender named Sun, calling him "pipsqueak" and telling Sun she did not care what his name was when he told her he had a name, causing him to turn the ground into lava.

When one of the spectators noticed Toph Beifong's presence and shouted that "the man's shutting this place down!", the earthbending fighter ran away with the other benders, believing that she was with Avatar Aang.
