The first graphic novel trilogy to be based on the second series, it is written by co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino, with line art by Irene Koh and coloring by Jane Bak and Killian Ng. The series' other co-creator, Bryan Konietzko, acts as a consultant for the novels.

The first issue of the series was released on July 26, 2017, but had been available for purchase at the San Diego Comic Con on July 20, 2017. The second part of the series was released on January 31, 2018, while the third followed on August 22. The library edition was released in comic book stores on February 13, 2019 and in mass market retailers on February 26, 2019. A paperback omnibus edition of Turf Wars was released on November 16, 2022.

Plot

After a refreshing sojourn in the Spirit World, Korra and Asami return to Republic City but find nothing but political hijinks and human vs. spirit conflict! Pompous developer Wonyong Keum plans to turn the new spirit portal into an amusement park, potentially severing an already tumultuous connection with the spirits. At the city's edge, Zhu Li enlists everyone she can to aid the thousands of hungry and homeless evacuees who have relocated there. Meanwhile, the Triple Threats ruthless new leader, Tokuga, is determined to unite the other triads under his rule, no matter the cost.

Trivia

• Mako has the spiky hairstyle he sported throughout the first three books of The Legend of Korra, which was last seen in "Venom of the Red Lotus".
• The graphic novel series was originally planned for a 2016 release instead of a 2017 one and would feature artwork from comic artist Brittney Williams instead of Irene Koh. Sometime during production, artists were shifted and the deadline was extended, but concept art from Williams featuring Korra and a release date of fall 2016 were distributed at a convention Williams attended.
• Michael Dante DiMartino wanted Buttercup Raiko to play a part in her husband's re-election campaign, and she was the only character that he could not organically weave into the story.
