The fully-illustrated book follows Korra chronicling her trials during her time as the Avatar. It was originally scheduled for release on May 21, 2019, but this was later pushed back to August 6.[1]

Description

Avatar Korra and her friends chronicle their memories and adventures in this new fully-illustrated scrapbook filled with letters and inserts from your favorite characters.

After the time of Avatar Aang, Korra was revealed as the next Avatar. After training with Aang's son Tenzin, Avatar Korra succeeded in the battle to restore peace between the Spirit World and Republic City, though the victories were hard-fought. In this fully-illustrated scrapbook, Tenzin challenges Korra to chronicle the many trials and lessons she has learned during her time as Avatar.

To complete this task, Korra enlists the help of her many friends and loved ones to share stories, mementos, and artifacts from their many adventures. Readers will discover gorgeous art, inserted posters, special removable keepsakes, photos, and more throughout this book!

Contents

Once Korra and Asami return from the Spirit World, the waterbender is asked by Tenzin to record and reflect on the events she has experienced as the Avatar. Disinterested, Korra boastingly writes a letter to the future Avatars, providing a gist of her journey, from her struggle in airbending to defeating Kuvira. She assures Tenzin that she is doing her best as the Avatar in order to help Republic City and maintain balance and peace in the world. She then ends the letter with her gratitude to her spiritual mentor for his constant wise and thoughtful counsel to her.

Upon reading Korra's letter, Tenzin writes back, noting that the future Avatars may not have connections to their past lives and, as such, a record of her significant accomplishments and battles will likely be invaluable, while appreciating her contributions himself. He tries to convince her to try again (in recording the events), so that the future Avatars will know her.

This convinces Korra, and she recruits Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo as the "leading experts on her journey as the Avatar". They begin compiling the record book with Ikki drawing a childish picture of Korra and Naga titled Avatar Korra, Triumphant, with Large Dog, for which Tenzin reprimands the Avatar.

Letters from Korra's companions

Realizing that Tenzin is committed to ensuring she completes her assignment, Korra resumes writing to her successors, detailing how she only started to figure out what it meant to be the Avatar when she arrived in Republic City. After iterating how her friends and family were a constant source of support since the beginning of her Avatarhood, Korra realizes she should write to her allies in order to get their advice and personal accounts of their time together. Many of Korra's companions, including her fellow Team Avatar members, followed up on her request.

Asami Sato

Dear Korra,

I have to admit, I was a little bit surprised to receive your letter the other day, given that many of these questions about Future Industries could easily be asked in person... say, over a nice, romantic dinner at Fan's Dumplings? Hmm-this wouldn't have anything to do with that assignment Tenzin gave you, would it?

Still, I'm always happy to write back. It reminds me of old times, back when you were recovering with Katara in the South, I was here in Republic City, and all that connected us were the letters we wrote each other. Even though I knew you were struggling and even when I wasn't sure what I felt about Future Industries, just seeing your handwriting appear on my desk could brighten my whole day.

For such a long time, I felt like it was my duty to keep the family business going, for the sake of the city and the people it employed. But ever since I made peace with my father, it's become important to me that I protect his legacy. While I know that he made many mistakes, he made the ultimate sacrifice to correct those mistakes, and he helped protect us all in the end. I want that to count for something.

I know if he were here he would be doing everything he could to help rebuild the city-to create better housing developments and refine our technology to help effect the change you've spoken about so eloquently. So that's what I intend to do as well. And if the technology can help you as the Avatar-and future Avatars-then that makes me even happier.

Below are drawings and diagrams that show Future Industries' machines and technology have already evolved over a few short years. If we do our job right, they'll soon evolve even more, helping benders and nonbenders alike. Perhaps a future Avatar will look back at these sketches and marvel at how far we've come.

I hope this is helpful for your book-if not, let me know tonight, I'm looking forward to seeing you.

Love,
Asami.

Bolin

Korra,

It's about time I got a letter from you! I spent some time doing a little pen pal math last night, and if my calculations are correct, Pabu and I have poured our hearts out into twenty-three letters-only ten of which were, as you put it, "grossly melodramatic"-and yet this is the first one we've received in return. I don't mind, but Pabu... Pabu feels things, Korra.

Life as Mako's partner on the police force-Mako's favorite, best, most talented partner-is going well, and I'm at least 99 percent sure that this job won't end with me fleeing through the forest for fear of being thrown in a reeducation camp-which, by the way, is not a place where they teach you new craft skills... just in case you, and you alone, were under any false impressions.

Opal's much happier with this job, too, and she likes this uniform a lot better than my old Earth Empire one (although a little bit less than my Nuktuk shorts... but moving on).

I really can't complain about anything in my life right now. I've got a great job, and I'm in the best and least frighteningly aggressive relationship I've ever had, even if there is quite a bit of kale.

So. Much. Kale.

Please save me from the kale.

Anyhoo, I'm still waiting for you to come visit with my new extended Earthbender family. I think a few of them are starting to debut my claims that the Avatar and I are best friends. My cousin Big Ti still believes me, but Little Ti... I would hate to disappoint him.

Lots of Love,
Bolin.

P.S. I'm including one of my Nuktuk mover headshots, as while I may have unfortunately melted my beautiful, beautiful statue/hat rack while showing off my lavabending to Medium Yu, I still have a million of these things. You're welcome.

Bumi

Korra,

It's great to hear from you! Bum-Ju is fine and chirps hello, or at least I'm pretty sure he does. And no, I haven't shaved my head to help with my new airbending skills-you can tell my little brother that the chances of that happening are about as great as him loosening up enough to go on a vacation without a detailed itinerary. Vacation Tenzin... Ha!

You asked me how the airbending is going now that my official training with Tenzin is over. I'll tell you one thing-there are a lot fewer boring stories about Ol' Tang Xu the Amazing Fasting Monk, that's for sure. Still, I can't be too hard on Tenzin; I know I like to bust his chops, but the only reason I feel like Dad would be proud of me now is because Tenzin's never stopped trying to teach me or believing that this old dog could learn something new.

Just don't tell him that. Don't want his tattooed head to get any bigger, ya know?

Bumi.

P.S. I don't know that I have any great advice for Avatars, but did I ever tell you the story of how I saved all of you when you were being held prisoner by Unalaq at that Northern army camp? Well, it all started with my trusty flute and a dark spirit who was a bit of a music lover...

Jinora

Dear Korra,

You know that I'm always happy to talk about the Spirit World-the more people know about it and understand its beauty and sanctity, the less likely they'll be to try to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

Needless to say, of course I remember our first journey. I know that it didn't go exactly as planned, but still... I wouldn't trade it for anything. Granted, Wan Shi Tong didn't turn out to be the nicest owl spirit, but sometimes I catch myself daydreaming about his huge Spirit Library and how I'd update its section on modern technology. Wan Shi Tong's Knowledge Seeker fox spirits seem to have some very select blind spots.

I haven't been able to explore as much as I'd like, what with all the goings-on in Republic City right now, but I still hope to take Kai-or as my dad likes to call him, "that close friend of Jinora's who is also a boy"-to the Spirit World. Kai's always been so encouraging of my airbending, and he's been right with me as we work to defend the new spirit portal in Republic City.

You asked me if I could explain how I use my spirit energy to find people, but it's hard to put into exact words. All I can say is that it's like airbending, with a little spiritual stuff thrown in. Kind of a vague recipe, I know-let me know if you want the one for my mother's coconut macaroons. It's a little easier to follow.

Love,
Jinora.

Katara

Dear Korra,

It was an unexpected blessing to receive your letter, and I'm always happy for an excuse to speak more about the history of the Water Tribes, given that our future was in jeopardy not so long ago. With my daughter Kya busy in Republic City helping with the efforts to resettle refugees, I find that I could use the company, even if it is long-distance.

Now that I am older, I can see that my childhood was defined by those who were missing-my mother after she passed and my father gone away to fight in the Hundred Year War. It was only after Sokka and I discovered Aang in the ice that I began to discover a new sense of family, one that was at first comprised of the friends we met on our journey and, eventually, one that Aang and I would create together.

Because of that, it was a special joy to see you grow up surrounded not only by the love of your mother and father-who were so proud of their daughter, the Avatar-but also a tribe of resilient people who have survived so many challenges, often thanks to the wise leadership of men and women like your parents.

Do you remember that day outside the hut when I told you that waterbending was done with slow, calm movements, and you ended up burying me in the snow? Your mother was so worried, but I knew it was only a matter of time. You've always been one who needed to forge ahead and find her own way, whether that meant following my son Tenzin to Republic City or withdrawing to recover from all that you faced as the Avatar. But if there's any advice I can give you (or any future incarnation) it's to never forget that there's also strength in looking back at where you've been.

Please give my love to my children and grandchildren. Oh, and tell Tenzin and his brother Bumi to be nice to each other.

Katara.

Lin Beifong

Dear Avatar,

Thank you for your letter, although it seems Detective Mako and I remember the first part of his tenure on my force very differently. I remember him barging into meetings, consorting with twelve-toed gangsters, loudly breaking up with his volatile Avatar girlfriend in the office, and inciting the Republic City populace over the radio with exceedingly tone-deaf speaking skills.

I suppose he has improved, and I had to admit that on the rare occasion, his instincts can be good. I do consider him a valuable part of my team. At least Detective Mako knows when to stay away from the Varri-cakes at public functions, which is more than I can say for many in my employ (like his brother Bolin).

You ask if I've been in touch with my sister, Su. Yes, I am happy to say that the understanding we found while attempting to protect you from the Red Lotus and defend the city against Kuvira's army has held. I've visited my nieces and nephews and that ridiculous chef of Su's several times.

I would hope that any new Avatar would have the skills to figure out what being an Avatar means for him or herself. But perhaps you should tell them to make sure to learn the rules before barging in somewhere. I assume he or she, at least, wouldn't want to waste the local police force's time.

Sincerely,
Chief Beifong.

Mako

Hey Korra,

Thanks for your letter-and for the four other letters that arrived, one every day, until I had a chance to respond. I've been pretty busy catching back up with being part of the Republic City Police Force after those years guarding Prince Wu. Thankfully, he's stopped asking me to hook you two up. Now I just wish he'd also stop sending me sample lyrics for the album of badgermole lullabies he claims he's releasing.

The expansion of Republic City to accommodate the new spirit portal has unfortunately stirred up a lot of unrest with the local gangs, which means Bolin-my temporary partner-and I are hitting the streets again, only this time as detectives. I think Lin is even starting to like me... or maybe she did all along. I know you'll probably find this hard to believe, but I sometimes have trouble reading women.

We did have a lot of adventures together, didn't we? Since Bolin and I are dealing with the Triple Threats again, I've been thinking a lot about you and our early days together. I'm still sorry for being so rude that first day at the gym. I don't know what I would do if we'd never become friends.

No matter what happens, I meant what I said about always having your back.

Sincerely,
Mako.

P.S. I've still been working on my list of cool police sayings. Okay, some of them I didn't think of until after they were useful, but still...

Opal

Dear Korra,

Bolin told me that I'd probably be receiving a letter from you soon! I was very happy to find out he was more right about this than he was about the kale shortage he keeps insisting is coming...

You asked if I could share a little bit about what it was like growing up in Zaofu. My mother always told me that she designed the city to be a center of innovation and progress, but for a long time, I don't think I ever really saw it, even though I knew I should admire its state-of-the-art rail system, its beautiful metallic domes, and its culture of truth and truth-tellers.

It wasn't until you and Bolin and Aunt Lin and all the others arrived to take me way for Airbender training that I was able to find that perspective.

I can't believe that you're asking me to give advice to an Avatar, but if I had to, I guess it would be that sometimes you need a little distance to be able to see things clearly. Zaofu isn't perfect-no city can ever be totally safe, no matter how high the walls-but leaving for a while let me see that it is beautiful. I will always hold a space for it in my heart. I know that the beautiful metal domes are gone now, torn down to make Kuvira's weapon, but they will always gleam in my imagination. So will the statues of my grandmother Toph, who should be proud of the metalbending city her daughter founded.

Sincerely,
Opal.

Varrick

Hey kid,

As requested, included are the suit blueprints you wanted. Although, for the record, you should know that ever since I got this whole "conscience" thing, Varrick Industries has been staying away from any projects that could allegedly be turned into a weapon for tyrannical plots of world domination.

Instead, while Zhu Li is delving into the wide world of politics, I've turned my mind to percolating on an exciting new market: products for the happily married man! Sure, Zhu Li didn't really like the prototype for the Endearment Generator-I still say we should get a focus group going on my "winsome wolfbat"-but a new business venture will always have a few kinks to work out.

I gotta sign off, as it's going on four o'clock and I've only got five minutes of daily productivity left. Also, if I've learned it once, I've learned it a thousand times-writing while hanging upside down quickly leads to fainting.

In wedded bliss,
Varrick.

P.S. Zhu Li, my winsome wo-er, wife, when you're reading this over to catch errors and "unnecessary self-aggrandizement" please make sure to do the thing.

Zuko

Dear Avatar Korra,

Thank you for your letter. This may surprise you, but I have been following your return to the world with interest. I think often of our last conversation, standing beside my dragon Druk at the Misty Palms Oasis. Aang would be proud of you for doing everything in your power to ensure that the Air Nation would flourish.

You mentioned that you met with my uncle Iroh in the Spirit World and he advised you to speak with me. I admit my first impulse was to be jealous that you had seen him. I often wish that I could sit down with him now and listen to what he has to say. I know that without his guidance I would never have found my rightful purpose. If you ever happen to see him again, please let me know what you discuss. I can only hope that it will be over a good pot of rare white dragon bush tea and a challenging game of Pai Sho.

It gives me great pride that Iroh believed me worthy to counsel you, but I think it's best to pass on words from Iroh himself. While it's always best to believe in oneself, a little help from others can be a great blessing.

Sincerely,
Lord Zuko.
