It is a square three-level building with a lush garden in the center. Due to its proximity to Zoryu Hall, it has been used to temporarily lodge visitors staying for large academic conferences.[1]
History
In the mid-50s BG, the delegates from the Four Nations Summit & Technological Symposium were housed at Tako Dormitory at night, while the summit was held at Zoryu Hall during the day. Although some of the Fire Nation delegates resided in the city, all of them lived in and worked out of Tako Dormitory during the conference. For the delegates, the dorms served as their political embassy, office, and personal quarters. Although all negotiations were technically supposed to take place in Zoryu Hall, everyone present understood that some of the most important negotiations would take place at the dormitory, over a cup of tea or a game of Pai Sho.[1]
Layout
Ground floor
The ground floor housed the Water Tribe and Earth Kingdom delegates during the summit. Pohu's room contained drafts of various pieces of innovative winter survival gear and ship components. It also contained a hidden document speculating how to use meteorite metal to improve ships. During the day, Taqukaq's room housed climbing equipment and lock picks, though he left during the evening to spy on the Fire Nation. Ikru's room had a large pile of notebooks, most of which had ten to twenty seemingly random pages filled with stream-of-consciousness notes, though these actually contained secret messages.[1]
Garden
The garden in the middle of the dormitory houses some of the Fire Nation's rarest plants and most aggressive gardeners. Though the garden is meticulously preened, it served as a place of quiet serenity for anyone looking for peace amid the hectic summit meetings. Some delegates, especially Sumati, held private meetings here.[1]
First floor
Once full of busy offices, the first floor was converted into Tako Dormitory's cafeteria, which serves a wide variety of meals four times a day. Khuchtei and Ikru took all their meals in the cafeteria, making sure to hobnob with everyone else, but always avoided each other. Ikru regularly offered games of Pai Sho and tea.[1]
Second floor
The top floor of Tako Dormitory served as the temporary home for Air Nomad and Fire Nation delegates during the summit. Khuchtei's room contained dossiers on each of the other delegates. She also had a report on what she knew about the properties of meteorite metal. Sumati's room seemed less lived-in than would be expected, and she had very few belongings. Hong's room adjoins Khuchtei's; hidden within his quarters was a makeup kit.[1]
