Biographical information

Personal life

Thomas was born in Stockton, California, the son of Catherine Schuler, a computer science professor and author, and Randy Thomas, a trial attorney, poet, and adventurer. He studied theater at both Arizona State University and the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts at USC in 2005, and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and television.

Thomas is an extreme sports enthusiast, including surfing and snowboarding, and avid adventure traveller, having climbed Huayna Potosí, a 19,974-foot mountain in Bolivia. He is also a supporter of tribal people's rights, having shot a short documentary in the Peruvian Amazon about the plight of the Harakmbut Tribe and worked with indigenous rights organizations Survival International and Amazon Watch.

Career

Thomas' first role was as the titular character in the 2005 critically acclaimed film What's Bugging Seth and, later that year, he starred in the independent dark comedy Sissy Frenchfry, which was also a film festival winner. This was followed by starring roles in The Cutting Edge 2: Going for the Gold, in which he performed many of his stunts, American Pie: The Naked Mile, the award-winning independent film Shelter, Dance Flick, Burning Palms, and the 2011 film Soul Surfer.

On the small screen, Thomas credits' include a regular role as Bailey on the Nickelodeon series Beyond the Break and a recurring role on General Hospital. He has also appeared on NCIS, Lie to Me, CSI, CSI: NY, Cold Case, and Living with Fran. In 2013, he was chosen to host the sports docu-series Game Changers and guest starred in the pilot episode of the Fox television series Gang Related.
