The pin line is officially licensed Avatar merchandise created by Zen Monkey Studios. Zen Monkey Studios acquired the license to create pins in 2017,[1] and has since created dozens of pins based on Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
Background
In early 2017, Zen Monkey Studios met with Nickelodeon to acquire rights to produce merchandise for them, and began producing Invader Zim and Avatar themed merchandise.[2] On October 24, 2017 Zen Monkey Studios officially announced on Twitter that they had acquired the rights to create licensed products themed around the Avatar franchise.[1] The following month, they revealed a set of pins that would be sold at New York Comic Con, and then later sold online.[3]
The Avatar pins were very successful, and the first wave of pins quickly overtook Zen Monkey Studios list of top-selling pins. Due to the success of the Avatar pin line, Nickelodeon gave the studio the rights to continue to produce more merchandise for them for franchises like Spongebob and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.[4]

Trivia
- The "Korrasami's Kiss" and "Korrasami's Heart Aflame" pins were designed by Diana Sim. She was actively sought out by Zen Monkey Studios for being a popular Korrasami artist in the fandom.
- Multiple pins were later resold as part of bundles or pin packs, including limited pins that had previously been sold out.
Goofs
- The descriptions mistakenly label the water-, earth-, and firebending symbols as the Water, Earth, and Fire Nation symbols.
