Personal life

Kiawentiio was born into a Mohawk family in Akwesasne, a First Nations reserve located on both sides of the Ontario-Quebec-New York border. Outside of acting, she is an accomplished artist and enjoys playing softball, volleyball, and ping-pong.[2] She is also a talented singer and songwriter, writing and performing the song Light at the End for the 2020 film Beans and releasing her debut EP In My Head in 2021 .

Career

Kiawentiio's career began in 2019 when she was cast as Ka'kwet in season 3 of the CBC show Anne with an E, beating out over 200 other indigenous Canadian actresses to the role. Series producer Miranda de Pencier was particularly complimentary of Kiawentiio in her role, referring to her "energetic charisma and undeniable intelligence".[2] A year later, she played the title role in the feature film Beans, her performance earning her a Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award.[3] In 2021, she had a recurring role in the sitcom Rutherford Falls, and in 2022 appeared as indigenous teenager Zarya in the short film N'xaxaitkw.
