Kanti was a former executive at Varrick Global Industries. After leaving the company, she wished to explore the Spirit World in an airship, seeing Republic City's spirit portal as a new frontier.[1][2]
History
Kanti was born and raised in Downtown Republic City, and had commerce in her blood. She worked as an executive for Varrick Global Industries, and racked up quite a significant bank account. Kanti left her position at the company after disagreeing with the policy to destroy all spirit vine energy research.
After quitting her job, Kanti decided to reenact the grand tour of the Unity by guiding a massive airship called the Harmony through the portal and then navigate the Spirit World to each of the other spirit portals, visiting the farthest reaches of the world in one grand trip.
Kanti's drive to pass through the spirit portal led her and her assets to a conflict with the Air Nation, one without any clear resolution.[2]
Personality
Kanti was not used to being told "no", and saw those who stood in the way of exploration as fools and cowards. In particular, she did not think much of the Air Nation, whose influence she blamed for Avatar Korra's strictures against spirit vine energy and interaction with spirits. Her drive was indomitable, and she barely listened to those who would talk her out of her plans, if at all.[2]
