The parents of June were an infamous thief and an ex-Earth Kingdom soldier turned bounty hunter. The two met when June's father helped to capture her mother, only to fall in love and help her escape prison. The two raised June together until the mother was arrested, resulting in the father becoming a single parent.
History
June's mother was originally an infamous thief known for robbing Earth Kingdom nobles, giving their riches to the poor and herself. In contrast, her father was the member of an Earth Kingdom military elite unit. The paths of the two crossed when an Earth Kingdom official tasked the father's unit to hunt down the thief.[1]
The soldiers lured June's mother into a trap using a great treasure, capturing her and handing her over to authorities. She was thrown into a prison. However, one soldier had not just come to regard the Earth Kingdom's system as corrupt, he had also fallen in love with the famous criminal. Much to the thief's surprise, the soldier opened her prison cell's door one day, unlocked her shackles, and allowed her to go free. The criminal reciprocated the soldier's feelings and the two escaped together.[1]
Eventually, the ex-soldier and the thief had a daughter, June. They were loving parents, and the young girl loved to listen to her parents' stories, especially the tale of their first meeting. Yet the family life was disrupted when the father's ex-unit discovered their hideout and cornered them during a surprise raid. The mother implored her lover to take June to safety, staying behind to delay the troops. When the ex-soldier initially argued against this decision, the thief declared that she was a mere criminal, whereas he was a defector and thus could expect far more cruel punishments. As the thief urged her partner to ensure that their daughter would always be free, the father took June and escaped through a window of the hideout.[1]
Afterward, June and her father became nomadic bounty hunters, traveling the world. The older man passed on his tracking and fighting skills to his daughter, and also implored her to never work for any government authorities and remain indepedent.[1][2] At one point, June's father received a shirshu from a rare animal collector in payment for a bounty, and gifted it to his daughter. The shirshu, named Nyla, became June's inseparable companion.[2]
