Guaba was a maidservant from Taku. She worked at the guesthouse where Avatar Yangchen stayed during the convocation between shang merchants and world leaders in year 17 of the era of Yangchen.[1]

History

While Yangchen was staying at the guesthouse, Guaba took the Avatar a breakfast tray, consisting of bowl of porridge sweetened with honey. The maid was shocked to find Kavik sleeping in a chair in the Avatar's room. Yangchen rose from the bed in a state of undress, wrapping the blankets around her in a makeshift cloak to crowd Guaba out of the room. When the Avatar asked for her name, Guaba introduced herself.

As Guaba tried to peer at Kavik for a closer look, Yangchen explained that she knew that it looked shocking to have a man, but insisted that nothing untoward had been going on. She claimed that her usual guardian, Boma, had been unable to leave Bin-Er, and that he had sent his grandson, "Lio", in his stead as Yangchen's escort. Yangchen stumbled over the phrasing of "escort" for a moment before reiterating it, and Guaba nodded with what she thought was a blank expression.

Guaba asked Yangchen if she should bring more food, but the Avatar insisted that the breakfast tray was fine as it was. Guaba then remarked that she and "Lio" would then have to share the porridge, with a glint in her eye sharper than the sunlight through the crack in the curtains. Yangchen asked the maid to exercise discretion, as she did not want her fellow dignitaries to get the wrong idea. The Avatar then wrested the tray out of Guaba's hands, turned around, and closed the door with her back.

When "Lio" was introduced at the council hall, Zongdu Iwashi responded with a slight smirk. Yangchen believed he may have heard rumors spread by Guaba, although she also believed it was possible that they may have also come from other busybodies who saw her with Kavik previously.[1]

Personality

Yangchen noticed that Guaba was likely prone to gossip. Although she tried to remain relatively composed, Yangchen picked up on Guaba's subtle expressions that pointed to her being excited to her learning about a potential scandal.[1]
