Gombo was the leader of a motorized Earth Kingdom gang,[3] that fought against Earth Queen Hou-Ting's rule.[1]

History

In 171 AG, Gombo led his gang on a raid of a royal tax shipment, scaring off the guards escorting it. However, Avatar Korra and Asami Sato stayed with the shipment, prompting Gombo to give them a chance to leave lest they would be hurt. As Korra informed him that they were taking the gold back to Ba Sing Se, Gombo complimented her on her spirit before aiming a kick at her head. He found himself knocked on the ground, however, when Korra ducked under his attack and swept his legs from underneath him. Recovering, Gombo engaged the Avatar a second time, but she easily managed to dodge his attacks before earthbending a pillar into his side, throwing him to the ground once again. Realizing they were beaten, Gombo hopped on their truck and ordered his men to retreat. As they exited the town, he shouted at Korra that she was on the wrong side, claiming that the gold belonged to the people, not the Earth Queen.[1]

Trivia

  • Gombo is the second known character to have dyed their hair, the others being Ginger, Huan, and Ryu. In the first drafts for the character by Joaquim Dos Santos, he was supposed to have red streaks in his hair, but Bryan Konietzko changed it to green in accordance to Gombo's Earth Kingdom origin.[3][2]
    • Like Ginger, Gombo used Varri-dye to stylize his hair.[2]
  • Gombo's design was heavily inspired by the Mad Max franchise.[3]
