Ganzaya was a Jasmine Island protector during the 100s AG. Alongside her team, she became entangled in Jasmine Island's political crisis of the time, investigating a major theft and the activities of Xai Bau, the eventual founder of the Red Lotus. Ganzaya was also a member of the Risen Wave, an anti-Fire Nation faction on the island.
History
A native of Jasmine Island's port areas, Ganzaya experienced the murderous Fire Nation invasion of the early 90s AG. This event left her with a lasting dislike of the Fire Nation and all firebenders. After the islanders had driven off the invaders, Ganzaya initially moved into the island's rural territory to assist in rebuilding efforts. She spent about a year there, but returned to the island's main town as she was notified of a series of minor crimes. Realizing that these were connected, Ganzaya led "an illegal one-woman investigation", eventually exposing a group of Fire Nation smugglers.[1]
Her work resulted in her becoming part of the Jasmine Island protectors, the island's security forces and main law enforcement agency.[1] Always vigilant for Fire Nation saboteurs, even after the Hundred Year War's end, Ganzaya eventually joined the Risen Wave whose anti-Fire Nation rhetoric she sympathized with.[1][2] The Risen Wave was one of several factions which emerged on the island in the 100s AG, feuding over the small state's future direction. When new elections for the island's ruling council were announced, this infighting further escalated.[3][4]
The political crisis on Jasmine Island continued to worsen when missions of the Air Acolytes as well as the Order of the White Lotus including Iroh and Piandao arrived on the island. The order members were seeking Xai Bau, a renegade revolutionary who had allegedly become active on Jasmine Island.[3][5] Ganzaya's team, including Kim Jin, Kosui, Thaki, and Zo, was present to greet these arrivals.[5] Once the protectors had escorted the foreigners to the council hall, they learnt that someone had stolen a bag of golden jasmine seeds from the yearly harvest, a symbolically potent and disruptive action.[5][6]
The protectors' leader, Wei, ordered Ganzaya's team to investigate the theft, reasoning that the group included members of various political factions and thus might be reasonably neutral.[2][6] The group thus visited the headquarters of the Autumn Leaves, Climbing Vines, Antiquarians, and Risen Wave, questioning and seeking clues.[6][6] The group eventually uncovered the thief's identity,[2][nb 1] and the influence of Xai Bau on the Autumn Leaves faction.[7] Furthermore, the investigation directly impacted the upcoming elections of the Jasmine Island council.[8]
Personality
Ganzaya held little respect for rules and even less for firebenders and Fire Nationals, disliking the latter ever since her experiences during the Hundred Year War. A cynical yet moral person, she strove to help others in any way possible, be it within or outside the system.[1][2]
Abilities
As a technologist, Ganzaya specialized in causing chain reactions with various kinds of equipment. She was also a very elusive fighter.[1]
