"Humans in the Spirit World belong in one place only!"
The dark spider spirit is an entity that resides in a hollow tree from which they hunt, luring prey toward them by swinging their luminescent lure. When discovering people, however, they will catch and toss them into the Fog of Lost Souls.[1]
History
During the Harmonic Convergence of 171 AG, the spider spirit was sleeping in their nest inside a tree hollow. The spirit did not take kindly to being woken up by Tenzin, who inquired their assistance. Declaring that humans in the Spirit World belonged in one place only, the spider spirit shot forward toward the airbending master, Kya, and Bumi. As the three ran for their lives, the spirit attempted to trap the humans with their webbing, though they missed and continued to give chase, driving the trio off a cliff. As their prey was out of reach, they returned to their tree hollow to resume sleeping.

A while later, the dark spider spirit was woken up again by Tenzin, though this time by an airbending blast. Angrily realizing their slumber was disturbed by the same people, the spirit lunged forward and trapped the three siblings in their web. The dark spider spirit dragged their prey behind them toward the Fog of Lost Souls, where they threw the group in, announcing they would never escape.[1]

Trivia
- The design for the spider spirit's lure was based off the anthropromorphized Starbuddies of the Care Bears franchise.[2]
