"All right, listen, my dad's an admiral. He has no idea I'm having this party, so don't mess anything up."
β Chan to his party guests.[1]
Chan was the son of Fire Nation Admiral Chan and a resident of Ember Island.[2][4]
History
Chan and his friend, Ruon-Jian, were impressed by Ty Lee and Mai during their stay at Ember Island. The pair invited the girls to a party at Chan's house, though Azula interrupted the conversation to insist that she and Zuko also be invited. Chan was initially reluctant, but he eventually agreed as long as they behaved normally.[1]
When Azula and the others arrived at his house, Azula attempted to flirt with Chan by remarking that his outfit was so "sharp" that "[it] could puncture the hull of an Empire-class Fire Nation battleship, leaving thousands to drown at sea." The intended compliment instead made him uncomfortable, and he gave an awkward thanks.[1]
Later, after receiving flirting advice from Ty Lee, Azula demanded a tour of the house. Chan led her onto the deck and made several jokes, causing Azula to laugh. She admired Chan's "muscular arms", and Chan subsequently moved in to kiss her. He complimented her appearance, prompting Azula to ignite her signature blue flames and declare that they would be the most powerful couple on earth. Chan, unnerved, made an excuse to leave, disappointing Azula.[1]
Chan returned to the party only to discover that Zuko had pushed Ruon-Jian into a vase that once belonged to his grandmother. Outraged, he expelled Zuko from the party, and shortly afterward, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee also left. Later that evening, Azula led Zuko and her friends back to Chan's house, where they vandalized the building in retaliation, leaving it a ransacked mess and Chan hysterical.[1]
Personality
Due to his status as the son of an admiral, Chan was overconfident and conceited. His arrogance was such that he apparently considered himself and his friends to be "some of the most important teenagers in the Fire Nation". He often hosted parties at his parents' beach house without informing them while they were away.[1]
