Caoli served as chancellor of the Fire Nation during the reign of Fire Lord Zoryu, assuming the role after the murder of Chancellor Dairin.[1][2]
History
In the wake of Dairin's death in 295 BG at the hands of Yun and the coinciding eruption of political turmoil threatening to plunge the Fire Nation into civil war,[2][3] Caoli, Dairin's former student, succeeded him as chancellor and Head Palace Historian.[1] In the month following Fire Lord Zoryu and his clan's victory over Chaejin and the Saowon clan in their succession conflict,[4] Caoli became a key player in cementing how the details of the conflict would be remembered. Caoli spent many long days in the tower study with Zoryu crafting how future generations of Fire Nation citizens would view this period of history. At Caoli's suggestion, the feud would come to be known as the Camellia-Peony War,[1] in reference to the flowers symbolizing the two rival clans.[5]
Personality
Caoli was an imaginative historian who had a talent for wordplay and pivotal influence on the Fire Lord in the weeks following his staged apprehension of Yun's impostor.[4][6] Caoli impressed Zoryu with the poetic beauty of the name "Camellia-Peony War" despite the actual events never escalating into all-out war.[1]
