- This article is about the Jasmine Islander. For other similar uses, see Jin (disambiguation).
Kim Jin was a Jasmine Island protector during the 100s AG. Alongside her team, she became entangled in Jasmine Island's political crisis of the time, investigating a major theft and the activities of Xai Bau, the eventual founder of the Red Lotus. Kim Jin was also a member of the Climbing Vines, a communitarian faction on the island.
History
A member of Jasmine Island's influential Jin family, Kim Jin grew up to become fascinated by her homeland's history and culture, devoting her time to learning as much as possible. Thanks to her clan's prosperity, she suffered no hardships as a child, but still learnt to rely on her own skills.[2] Inspired by Jasmine island's colorful history, Kim Jin joined the Climbing Vines whose devotion to compromise as well as unity she shared.[2][3] The Climbing Vines were one of several factions which emerged on the island in the 100s AG, taking a moderate stance compared to other political groups of the time.[4][5]
Kim Jin eventually became part of the Jasmine Island protectors, the island's security forces and main law enforcement agency.[2] In this position, she specialized in negotiation and became the force's best mediator.[2] Meanwhile, the infighting among the political factions further escalated into a full crisis when new elections for Jasmine Island's ruling council were announced.[4][5]
The disputes on Jasmine Island continued to worsen when missions of the Air Acolytes as well as the Order of the White Lotus including Iroh and Piandao arrived on the island. The order members were seeking Xai Bau, a renegade revolutionary who had allegedly become active on Jasmine Island.[4][6] Kim Jin's team, including Ganzaya, Kosui, Thaki, and Zo, was present to greet these arrivals.[6] Once the protectors had escorted the foreigners to the council hall, they learnt that someone had stolen a bag of golden jasmine seeds from the yearly harvest, a symbolically potent and disruptive action.[6][7]
The protectors' leader, Wei, ordered Kim Jin's team to investigate the theft, reasoning that the group included members of various political factions and thus might be reasonably neutral.[3][7] The group thus visited the headquarters of the Autumn Leaves, Climbing Vines, Antiquarians, and Risen Wave, questioning and seeking clues.[7][7] The group eventually uncovered the thief's identity,[3][nb 1] and the influence of Xai Bau on the Autumn Leaves faction.[8] Furthermore, the investigation directly impacted the upcoming elections of the Jasmine Island council.[9]
Personality
Kim Jin was a friendly and lighthearted person who was loved jasmine Island's history and hoped to protect her homeland through compromises and negotiation.[2][3]
