  • The cabbage merchant's real name is revealed to be "Cai".
  • The cabbage merchant is revealed to have been born in Gaoling to a line of cabbage farmers. Furthermore, he was married and had two children, a daughter and a son (Lau Gan-Lan).
    • Lau Gan-Lan assisted his father at the Cabbage Delicacies Bistro.
  • As part of his travels, the cabbage merchant moved through the Si Wong Desert around the time of "The Library".
  • After learning of Team Avatar's repeated destructive role in the cabbage merchant's life, Zuko tried to make up for his friends' actions by buying an entire cart full of cabbages from the merchant.
  • It is revealed that the cabbage merchant's idea for the Cabbage Delicacies Bistro was partially inspired by a visit to the Jasmine Dragon.

  • If Cai shared the same last name as his son Lau Gan-Lan, that would make his name "Cai Gan-Lan", a play on "gan-lan cai", the name of a vegetable dish.
