Patterns in Time is an anthology of stories set in the Avatar universe, collecting previously published Free Comic Book Day issues as well as a number of new stories related to The Legend of Korra, with the exception of "Wisdom".

Turf Wars (2017)

Following their trip to the Spirit World, Korra and Asami Sato discover that Republic City has fallen into a state of utter chaos. In the aftermath of the devastation caused by the battle with Kuvira's forces and the opening of a spirit portal in the middle of the city, a developer has moved to turn the portal and the surrounding area into an amusement park. In addition, as evacuees filter back into the city and discover the devastation, the regrouping of the city's triads creates yet another problem for the Avatar and her friends.[1]

Turf Wars Part One

Relishing their newfound feelings for each other, Korra and Asami leave the Spirit World ... but find nothing in Republic City but political hijinks and human versus spirit conflict!

A pompous developer plans to turn the new spirit portal into an amusement park, potentially severing an already tumultuous connection with the spirits. What's more, the triads have realigned and are in a brutal all-out brawl at the city's borders–where hundreds of evacuees have relocated!

In order to get through it all, Korra and Asami vow to look out for each other–but first, they've got to get better at being a team and a couple!

Turf Wars Part Two

Recovering from the fight and furious for revenge, the Triple Threats' new leader Tokuga solidifies his ties with the duplicitous Wonyong.

Meanwhile, when Republic City's housing crisis reaches its peak, Zhu Li sets her sights on the biggest public figure in the city—President Raiko—in a bid for the presidency!

With her friend's success, the future of the spirit portal, and the wellbeing of Republic City's citizens at stake, can Korra remain neutral and fulfill her duties as the Avatar?

Turf Wars Part Three

When Asami is kidnapped, Korra sets out to the Spirit Wilds to find her. Now teeming with dark spirits influenced by the half spirit-half human Tokuga, the landscape is more dangerous than ever before. The two women must trust in each other and work together if they are to make it out alive.

Korra must decide whom to trust as the fate of the Earth Kingdom hangs in the balance! On the eve of its first elections, the Earth Kingdom finds its future endangered by its past. Even as Kuvira stands trial for her crimes, vestiges of her imperial ambitions threaten to undermine the nation's democratic hopes. But when Korra, Asami, Mako, and Bolin don't all see eye-to-eye as to the solution, drastic measures will be taken to halt a new march to war![2]

What will it take to stop a war?

King Wu's dreams of peacefully transitioning the Earth Kingdom into a democracy are in danger when Commander Guan throws his political hat in the ring, hoping to subvert the new system from the inside out. But playing fair was never part of his plan; Guan and Dr. Sheng are using terrifying new technology to cement Guan's win! In a desperate attempt to save the Earth Kingdom from falling back into the dark days of conquest and empire, Korra and Kuvira convince an old friend to return and take the former commander on in the polls. But will it be enough?[3]

Kuvira's true nature is revealed, and the Earth Kingdom will feel the consequences!

Thanks to Commander Guan and Doctor Sheng's brainwashing technology, all hope for a fair election in the Earth Kingdom is lost. Korra works with Toph, Su, and Kuvira to plan a means to rescue not just the brainwashed Mako, Bolin, and Asami, but everyone else caught up in Guan's plan! With the Earth Empire potentially on the rise again, Kuvira pulls another trick from her sleeve... but whose side is she truly on?[4]

Mystery of Penquan Island

When a strange missing persons case falls into his lap, Mako is forced to choose between his job and doing what he feels is right! An upturned room and an unhelpful witness aren't promising starts to the investigation, but when his brother Bolin comes across a surprising clue that ties their own mother to the case, the pair embark on a journey to the small, rustic island of Penquan. The island's inhabitants seem to have things to hide, and the brothers are determined to get to the bottom of it—even if it means uncovering uncomfortable parts of their family's past. Mystery of Penquan Island was released on March 4, 2025.[5]

A graphic novel about young Kya was first teased at San Diego Comic Con on July 25, 2025.[6]

Friends for Life (2016)

As a child living in the Southern Water Tribe, Korra finds a polar bear dog cub which has become separated from its pack during a storm. After naming it Naga, Katara convinces Korra's parents, Tonraq and Senna, to allow her to keep Naga, believing that Korra has found her animal guide.

Lost Pets (2018)

Avatar Korra pairs up with an unlikely sidekick. When Meelo shirks his duties at the refugee camp, Korra recruits him for a top-secret, super-important mission: tracking down a pack of lost pets![8][9]

Clearing the Air (2021)

Tenzin relates the tale of a fight he had as a youngster, and what the confrontation helped him discover about his Air Nomad heritage. But will that lesson work for Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo?

  • Comics for The Legend of Korra were initially announced by co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino during the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, but due to delays in the development, a date was not announced until October 2016, which was pushed back again later.[10]
  • The Dark Horse Comics panel during the 2016 New York Comic Con offered the first concept art for the comics featuring Korra and Asami in the Spirit World.[11]
