Yi Ming[1] was an Earth King residing in Ba Sing Se who was ruling the Earth Kingdom by 293 BG.[2]
History
Yi Ming's reign was best remembered for the large-scale public works projects he instituted. A brilliant but impatient ruler, he was tired of having to spend two full days traveling from one end of his city to the other, so he tasked his royal engineers with finding a solution to his traveling woes. The result of this was the mass-transit system that became known as the monorail.[1] Construction of the monorail began at some point between 295[3] and 293 BG.[2]
However, Yi Ming was not just concerned with public works. He also intended to rid his capital of daofei[4] which had begun organizing in Ba Sing Se since 296 BG.[5] Meanwhile, Avatar Kyoshi set up a task force to carefully and selectively deal with violent daofei.[6] Yi Ming was initially ambivalent about this project, but sanctioned it after being convinced of its merits by Fire Nation ambassador Quin.[7]
Around 293 BG, Kyoshi was forced to leave the capital. Afterward, Yi Ming effectively usurped her task force for his own goals. He named it the "Anti-Corruption Task Force"[6] and gave the force's commander, Captain Yong, free hand to indiscriminately crush all criminals in the city, especially those who threatened the monarchy's power.[6][4] Yi Ming's concerns regarding outlaws were not unfounded; one daofei group, the Paper Knives, actually intended to use a stolen plan from Wan Shi Tong's Library to sneak into the Earth Kingdom Royal Palace and attack the king at some point.[8]
Soon after Kyoshi's departure, the children of ambassador Quin were kidnapped. Yi Ming saw it as a matter of prestige that his own law enforcement solve the crime, and tasked the Anti-Corruption Task Force with finding the missing individuals. At the same time, he and his ministers subtly threatened Quin not to take matters in her own hands, but to no avail.[7]

- According to Iroh, Pakku, and Bumi's retelling of Team Avatar's adventures during the Hundred Year War, one room in the Earth Kingdom Royal Palace was named in Yi Ming's honor.[9]
