"Why, they might try to claim the contested Chuje Islands with such a fleet!"

History
The islands were relevant in a discussion in Gaoling between Lu Beifong and his former pupil Jianzhu, in which Lu's chamberlain Hui and Jianzhu's ally Hei-Ran also participated. Jianzhu attempted to convince Lu to give a loan to the Southern Water Tribe in order to develop a legitimate navy that could defend the tribe against enemies in the Eastern Sea; however, Hui diverted the conversation to the Chuje Islands. The chamberlain claimed that the territory would be claimed as soon as such a fleet was built, and that it would be highly irresponsible to give the Southern Water Tribe a position of strength over the Earth Kingdom. Hei-Ran agreed with Jianzhu that it would be better for the Southern Water Tribe to have a sovereign navy rather than relying on the Fire Navy to patrol the Eastern Sea.[1]
However, tensions were inflamed once more when Jianzhu deemed the islands to be "worthless". Hui feigned offense, and twisted the conversation to one of national pride, noting that the Earth King ruling in 296 BG had been vexed over the islands since his coronation, and cautioned Jianzhu from questioning the monarch's judgment. Due to Yun's absence from Lu's celebration, no such loan was granted to the Southern Water Tribe. Jianzhu concluded that the dispute about the islands had gravely damaged the future of the tribe.[1]
