- This article is about the character in the The Reckoning of Roku. For the Equalist character in the TTRPG, see Rabten.
Rabten was the abbot of the Southern Air Temple and leader of the Air Nomads that resided there during the Era of Roku.[1]
History
Rabten expressed concern over a young Gyatso struggling with his airbending.[1]
When Roku was cleaning the crematorium, Rabten arrived to inform him about Ta Min wanting to meet him. He asked the Avatar if he was bothered by the crematorium due to its closeness to death and questioned why he felt uneasy even if he understood that death was a natural part of life.[2]
Physical description
Rabten was an elderly, cherub-faced monk.[2]
Personality
Rabten was a friendly and polite monk. He considered death a natural part of life and believed that people continued to exist even after dying through the ways they influenced the lives around them. He also treated his own mortality with humor, chuckling gently about how death could arrive any day for elders like him.
He noticed Roku was bothered by death for more specific personal reasons, but decided not to push him to open up about it.[2] He also worried about Gyatso's struggles with his airbending.[1]
