Jiro was a member of the Creeping Crystal Triad who managed to leave behind a life of organized crime. After abandoning the triad, he opened and ran the Stoneriver Auction House in the Harmony Park district in Republic City.[2]

History

Jiro was once a member of the Creeping Crystal Triad. After assisting the triad in achieving a "big score", Jargala Omo rewarded him with a large portion of the payout. This was enough money for Jiro to leave the triad and try to build a legitimate life for himself.

Jiro invested his money in an old, abandoned theater in Harmony Park that had not yet been redeveloped, and completely renovated it into the Stoneriver Auction House, spearheading the construction.[2] Although it was relatively new and recent, the auction house was built by traditional artisan methods to give it a historical air, allowing it to present itself as something classy and old, with deep roots in the antiquities trade throughout the world.[1] When the auction house opened, Jiro meticulously ensured all his items came with a bill of sale, and worked with historians to authenticate all purchases he made.[2] Jiro also started dating Little Yang, a talented singer. He did not tell her about his past with the triad, and started doing his best to be the legitimate businessman she understands him to be.[2]

Jiro was doing his best to steer clear of any criminal activity, and achieved relative success at the auction house. However, Jargala started pressuring him into auctioning stolen and illicit goods. She was quick to remind him that he made the money to open the auction house thanks to the triad, and wanted him to pay his dues once more. The auctioneer was torn on what to do, as while he owed a lot to his former boss, he was well aware that the Creeping Crystal Triad was dangerous.

Jargala managed to convince Jiro to hold an illegal auction night for the whole of Republic City, selling valuables and relics looted by the Creeping Crystal Triad during the Earth Empire attack on the city. As the relics would be officially sold through the auction house, they would be made "legitimate" through sale, with money being laundered to the triad.

The Agni Kai Triad also sent representatives around to Jiro to make it clear that they did not want him to run the auction, as other triads were unhappy that Jargala was about to secure serious cash with the potential to make it legitimate. The Agni Kais made it clear to him that if he did run the auction, they would consider Jiro and the whole auction house to be back in play in the triads' power struggles.

Jiro did not want his auction house to become a pawn in triad battles, but was unsure what he could do about it. He knew that he could not outright refuse Jargala, both due to old loyalties and because she could easily blackmail him. While she promised that the auction would be a one-off, Jiro knew better than to take her at her word. The auctioneer knew that if he could not find a way out of the situation, all of his hard work to live a legitimate life would be for nothing, and feared that his establishment would be destroyed, or that it would be in conflicts among the triads.[2]
