Jin Bo was a magistrate on Jasmine Island, responsible for cataloging and preserving the rich cultural history of his homeland. In this position, he played a leading civil role in the early 90s AG, when he organized emergency measures in response to a surprise Fire Nation invasion.

History

Jin Bo was born into the influential Jin family on Jasmine Island, a small, independent state. At one point, he began to investigate his homeland's culture as a hobby. His work expanded and eventually became a major effort, making him quite respected among his compatriots for his tireless activities and great love for Jasmine Island.[2] Eventually, the state's leadership officially recognized him by naming him a magistrate of arts and culture, turning his hobby into a profession.[2][3]

Being a popular figure, various people suggested to Jin Bo that he should stand in the elections for the island's ruling council, but he always declined. As he was solely devoted to his work on cultural history, he argued that this would have made him a "one topic councilmember", completely unsuited to politics.[2]

In the early 90s AG, Jasmine Island became subject to a brutal Fire Nation invasion, later dubbed "The Devastation" by the locals. The Fire Nationals wrought great destruction, indiscriminately burning, looting, and killing. Amid this chaos, Jin Bo desperately attempted to save as many documents, art, artefacts, and other important cultural as well as historical items, believing that the loss of the local culture would greatly harm the very "soul of the island".[2][3] To this end, he requested help by a group of Jasmine Island protectors, including Akataa, Aiko, Basalt, Siku, and Fu Meili.[4] He specifically asked them to venture to a number of locations, rescuing artisan scrolls on pottery techniques used for locally unique teapots, decades-old notes about golden jasmine tea production, and a number of remembrance statues.[3]
