Miki was the leader of Zongdu Henshe's personal watchers at the Bin-Er city gathering hall.[1]
History
Miki cared for her younger brother at home, who was rather unhealthy, usually being sick with some kind of cough or another. Like all of Henshe's watchers, she was paid directly out of the zongdu's own coffers, and was specifically chosen as she did not have many alternative means of living. Without his blessing, his watchers would be on the streets.
After Avatar Yangchen's meeting with the shang merchants concluded, Zongdu Henshe posted attendants around the windows and corners of the Bin-Er gathering hall, telling them to look out for anything suspicious. Henshe beckoned her over after leaving the washroom between meetings, asking where the Avatar was. Miki informed him that she had left, having taken off on her bison. When Henshe asked about her companion, Boma, her eyes widened, and she said that she did not know. Henshe stared at her, asking how she could have lost track of a slow-moving old man.
She could not answer Henshe, and the zongdu gestured at the bamboo scaffolding reaching up to the highest window of the hall. He asked her to check that Boma was not on the roof, planning to spy on the zongdu at that very moment. Miki was apprehensive about going onto the roof, but Henshe said it was where she was needed most, even if it was steep and a little icy during the harsh winter. He placed a hand on her shoulder, explaining that they should not make the same mistake twice, as the shangs had already been put at a disadvantage by not considering that Yangchen could watch the flow of traffic from above. Miki's lip trembled, but she followed the order, knowing how vulnerable she would be if she lost her job. She went to the scaffolding and hauled herself up to the first level with difficulty, with the joints of the structure being loose from neglect. Miki looked back over her shoulder before attempting to climb any higher, with Henshe smiling at her encouragingly, telling her that she was doing great.
For much of Henshe's subsequent meeting, Miki kept watch. Eventually, however, she lost her footing and fell from the roof, breaking her arm and losing consciousness. Though Henshe cared little about her injury, others organized for her to be brought away for treatment.[1]
Abilities
Miki was a nonbender, but had enough skill to rise through the ranks as the head of Henshe's watchers.[1]
