Though the rebellions did not seriously threaten the Fire Nation's integrity, they were a substantial problem for the Fire Lord's government.[1][2]
History
The rebellions were not a single insurgency, but instead a "scattered" movement which opposed the Fire Lord. The insurgents were largely based on outer and remote Fire Islands, and thus the Fire Nation leadership did not immediately invest much energy into dealing with them. However, Fire Lord Taiso decided to crush the rebellions by 66 BG, as the Fire Nation's need for resources and land made even minor, outlying islands increasingly important.[2]
Taiso eventually became "fixated" on quelling the rebellions,[3] even though the counter-insurgency operations seriously stretched the capabilities of the Fire Nation Navy.[1]
Trivia
- Fire Lord Taiso forbade Sozin from taking an official navy ship for a secret mission due to the Outer Islands Rebellions.[1]
- In his propaganda, Sozin framed the Lambak Island conflict as a part of the rebellions by portraying Lambak clan leader Ulo as a "separatist chieftain".[4]
