Megomi was the leader of the Jasmine Island protectors during the era of Avatar Korra, overseeing the response to a series of issues on her home island. She played a key role in the island's response to a series of earthquakes caused by K-N Mining's illegal drilling operations.[1]

History

Megomi became the leader of Jasmine Island's protectors after her predecessor, Kyong, died in a naturally-occurring earthquake. Despite the island's protectors establishing a much more formal hierarchy and structure, Megomi became known for a much more hands-off approach as leader.[1]

In the year after Megomi became leader, Jasmine Island suffered a series of earthquakes as a result of illicit drilling by K-N Mining. After a sinkhole emerged at the Golden Leaf Tea-Packing Plant, Megomi met up with Foreperson Binna, as well as the councilmembers, Chief Tonraq, and Toph Beifong. Jing, Hakkun, Juni, Danbi, and Min Jun soon emerged from a tunnel below the plant, and briefed Megomi on what had been causing the unusual seismic activity on the island. The protectors' leader was shocked, and she started to seriously doubt herself at the revelation that so much had been going on without her knowledge.[2][3]

Amid the crisis with K-N Mining, Megomi supported the islanders remaining on their homeland and keeping the rights to their platinum, but believed no more mining should go ahead. She wanted to commit to promoting Jasmine Island's historic culture, focused on golden jasmine tea alone. She also advocated for building up defenses and protections to ensure nobody like Kunchen could take advantage of the island ever again.[3]

Personality

Megomi easily felt overwhelmed with the responsibilities of her job. While she was devoted to handling Jasmine Island's needs, she felt insecure of herself, and was especially guilty after learning that such a large security breach had occurred under her leadership.[4]

Abilities

Despite feeling troubles, almost everyone on the island believed Megomi was a good leader of the protectors.[4] She tried to be present at any major incident on the island, even though she took a less centralized approach as leader compared to her recent predecessors.[1] Megomi was also a skilled firebender, and was able to create a wall of flame from her fiery breath.[4]
