"Who better to resolve a crisis between our world and the Spirit World than the Avatar himself?"
Kay-fon[3] was an old man who lived in Senlin Village. He spent his days wandering about the community and beyond, seeking help for the troubled villagers who lived there.[2]
History
After the Fire Nation burned down the forest that Hei Bai had protected, the vengeful spirit began attacking the village and abducting citizens in retaliation. In response to this, Kay-fon began searching for any sign of hope to save his hometown and the villagers from Hei Bai's rage.[2]
One day, after incredulously seeing a flying bison, he found the Avatar Aang and his companions sulking in the ruins of the forest. He begged them for help, and brought him back to Senlin Village to brief him on the situation. In the town, the village leader showed skepticism that the Avatar could be of assistance. However, Kay-fon had complete faith in the Avatar's ability to stop Hei Bai's rampage, and that only he stood a chance. He even consoled Katara after Sokka's abduction, assuring her that he would be shocked if the Avatar returned without him.[1]
