Dagmola was the abbess of the Western Air Temple during the childhood of Avatar Yangchen.[2]

History

Some time after the death of Avatar Szeto, Dagmola and the senior nuns of the Western Air Temple discovered that a girl named Yangchen was the next Avatar. While traditionally this would not have been revealed until Yangchen was sixteen, the nuns discovered that Yangchen had a very strong connection to her past lives, and had visions of people from the past that sometimes turned into "waking nightmares" of traumatic experiences. Dagmola made notes of these visions, and wrote down names such as Angilirq, Praew, and Yotogawa, and she and the nuns found the pattern: the names were those of past Avatar companions. One time, Dagmola and other nuns were with Yangchen in the infirmary when she started speaking about "Mesose", which was initially unknown to Librarian Tsering at first glance. When Jetsun arrived with a book written by the scholar Mesose of the Ru Ming era, Dagmola excused herself so that the spiritual guide could attempt to soothe the young Avatar.[2]

When Jetsun helped Yangchen cross over into the Spirit World for the first time, Dagmola and Tsering acted as assistants. Both nuns helped set up incense, and the abbess rang the meditation bell as Jetsun and Yangchen began the process, easily crossing over.[1] When Yangchen woke up, Jetsun did not, and Dagmola started cradling the older airbender's slumped-over body, trying to rouse her. As she was still trapped in the Spirit World, her body could not survive for long, and Jetsun passed away.[3]

Dagmola developed mental exercises for Yangchen to help her control her past lives slipping through, such as visualizing a sturdy bank between her memories.[4] Yangchen eventually left the Western Air Temple to master the elements, with Boma swearing an oath to the Western elders to keep her safe.[5]
