Hideo was a member of the Climbing Vines, a political faction on Jasmine Island during the 100s AG.

History

A nonbender native of Jasmine Island, Hideo experienced the political crisis of his homeland in the 100s AG.[1] At the time, new elections for the island's ruling council had been announced, causing various political factions to bitterly feud in an attempt to gain the electorate's support. The Climbing Vines were the only faction which was willing to compromise to unify the infighting groups,[2][3] and Hideo wholeheartedly backed this stance.[1][4]

The political crisis on Jasmine Island eventually continued to escalate when it became known that someone had stolen a bag of golden jasmine seeds from the yearly harvest, a symbolically potent and disruptive action.[2] The Jasmine Island protectors quickly started to investigate the crime, regarding the Climbing Vines as potential suspects. A team of protectors, consisting of Ganzaya, Kim Jin, Kosui, Thaki, and Zo visited the group's headquarters, where Hideo acted as their temporary guide.[5][6] Though he tried to stay calm, he soon started to nervously ask the protectors about the progress of their investigation and the future of the upcoming election, while he tried to deflect any questions about the missing seeds.[6]

Personality

Though Hideo outwardly displayed a calm demeanor, this just disguised his constant anxiety and nervousness. His fears were mainly focused on his homeland's future, causing him to seek ways to unite the Jasmine Islanders. Under pressure, Hideo was prone to loosing his composure, even when he had nothing to actually worry about.[1][4]
