Basalt was a member of Jasmine Island's protectors during the late Hundred Year War. For an extended period, he served as a volunteer in a anti-Fire Nation guerrilla group and fought at the great conflict's frontlines until a injury forced him to return home. Basalt subsequently helped to defend the island's people from the Fire Nation military during "The Devastation".
History
Basalt was born during the later stage of the Hundred Year War. After joining the island's protectors and training as a warrior, Basalt eventually volunteered to serve as a combatant in the Great War against the Fire Nation.[2] This decision was quite common for protectors of the time.[3] Alongside several other protectors and friends, he ventured to the Earth Kingdom where they organized as a militia to fight as guerrillas and saboteurs to support the Earth Kingdom military.[2] As part of his combat experience, Basalt developed a grudge aimed at a young Fire Nation officer named Zhao.[1] In one battle, Basalt was heavily wounded at his hands, whereupon he was sent back to Jasmine Island by his commanding officer.[2]
Back home, Basalt was able to heal and recuperate, though his hands remained marked by scars. He sought to soon return to the frontlines in the Earth Kingdom.[2] Yet before he could leave, Jasmine Island itself came under attack. A strong Fire Nation force led by Admiral Yueya attacked Jasmine Island, launching a murderous campaign later dubbed "The Devastation". After the initial surprise attacks led by Captain Zhao, Basalt rallied around a veteran protector named Akataa, and tried to fight off the invaders.[1] Together with Akataa, Aiko, Siku, and Fu Meili,[1][3] Basalt later encountered Fire Nation soldiers led by Captain Lu Ten, who actually opposed Yueya's rampage. The protectors allied with Lu Ten,[4][5] and together worked out a plan to stop Yueya.[4][6] This culminated in a battle where Basalt and his friends defeated the admiral, helping to save their home.[4][7]
Personality
Basalt was a boisterous and determined man who had found solace in his service as a warrior. Having been a protector since his youth, fighting was so ingrained in his identity that he became quite insecure in times of peace.[2] As a result of his experiences in war, Basalt also developed a vengeful streak and became easily angered.[1][2]
Abilities
Aiko was a decent earthbender, excelling in creating earthen shockwaves and tackling his opponents with brute force.[2]
