The series, which will be helmed by Avatar co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, will utilize 2D animation[1] and run for two seasons of thirteen episodes each.[2][3] It is slated to premiere in 2027.[4][5]

Plot overview

Avatar: Seven Havens is set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm,[2] with both the physical and Spirit Worlds torn asunder. The remnants of humanity endure in the titular Seven Havens, spread across the world.[1] A young earthbender named Pavi discovers she is the new Avatar after Korra—but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity's destroyer, not its savior.[2] On the run as she is pursued by both human and spirit forces, the new Avatar will be joined by her long-lost twin sibling, as they uncover their mysterious origins and links to the Avatar Cycle, and find a way to save their world before the Seven Havens collapse entirely.[1]

Characters

  • Pavi is the Earth Avatar succeeding Korra and the main protagonist of the series. She lives in the city of Alora.[6][7]
  • Jae is an airbender and friend and mentor to Pavi. He resides with her in the city of Alora.[6][7]
  • Geet (Dee Bradley Baker) is a cat monkey and the animal companion of Pavi.[6][7][8][9]

Production

In April 2022, Avatar Studios began hiring for various animated projects by Avatar Studios,[10] with writing for the series beginning in April 2023.[11] The series was officially announced by Janet Varney and Dante Basco, hosts of the Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast, on February 20, 2025, the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender's premiere, with the announcements on Nickelodeon's social media pages reaching over 20 million views in a day.[12][13] The series will be animated by Chouette Compagnie, a French animation studio,[14][15] and Armada TMT Studio, a Vietnamese animation studio.[16][17] Bryan Konietzko says the show will feel more "fantasy and otherworldly" than the previous two shows, taking influences from the surrealist art style of French artist and cartoonist Jean Giraud, better known by the pseudonym Mœbius, and anime series from the 1990s.[9] He later noted that the music for the series, by Jeremy Zuckerman, will be "something totally different for the Avatar world".[6] Zuckerman himself stated that Seven Havens is very different musically from other Avatar projects, using a completely different instrumental palette which is more synthesis-oriented, and will have "a lot of heart".[18] In a 2025 interview on the Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast, Avatar Studios executive story editor Joan Hilty confirmed that Seven Havens would provide insight into the eras of previous Avatars similar to how such discoveries were depicted throughout the franchise in shows and novels.[13]

Trivia

  • The series was first announced on February 20, 2025.[2]
  • The first image for the series, designed and drawn by William Nanqing Niu and Christie Tseng,[19] was shown at San Diego Comic Con on July 24, 2025,[7] depicting Pavi, Jae, and Geet with the city of Alora in the background.[6]
