Isonash was an anarchist revolutionary and politician on Jasmine Island, the leader of the Autumn Leaves faction, and a disciple of Red Lotus founder Xai Bau. A candidate of the Jasmine Island council elections during the 100s AG, he and his faction sought to dismantle their homeland's existing power structures.

History

A nonbending native of the small, independent Jasmine Island, Isonash was a member of the state's developing anarchist movement after the Hundred Year War. From this current emerged the Autumn Leaves, a group led by Isonash who sought to completely reform Jasmine Island's system on anarchist principles. He personally hoped that this would make Jasmine Island truly independent from negative outside influences. Not all anarchists joined the Autumn Leaves, with some such as Teki staying independent.

When new elections for the island's ruling council were announced, various political factions started bitterly feuding in an attempt to gain the electorate's support. Amid this growing political crisis, White Lotus anarchist Xai Bau visited the island and secretly forged connections with islanders who were inclined to revolutionary change, including Isonash and a few others. Isonash became Xai Bau's disciple, learning much about community organizing and political theory. In doing so, Xai Bau also radicalized Isonash, emphasizing the unfairness of the existing structures across the world and claiming that the Avatar was a threat to balance. As a result, the Autumn Leaves leader became more inclined to radical actions, concluding that he had spent too much time "playing things safe". In contrast, his de facto deputy Aputi disdained Xai Bau's ideas.

Isonash and most Autumn Leaves subsequently sought to undermine their homeland's political system by partaking in it, running in the elections while pushing for the dismantling of the council. Eventually, it became known that someone had stolen a bag of golden jasmine seeds from the yearly harvest, a symbolically potent and disruptive action. The Jasmine Island protectors quickly started to investigate the crime. Generally distrusting the security forces, Isonash believed that the protectors would blame the Autumn Leaves for the theft regardless of the actual culprit. Meanwhile, the protectors also aided the mission of Iroh and Piandao, White Lotus members who had come to Jasmine Island seeking Xai Bau. Like the other political factions, the Autumn Leaves were subsequently investigated, revealing Xai Bau's influence on Isonash and his comrades.

Personality

Isonash was not naturally inclined to radical and quick actions, being patient and careful as he sought to avoid harming others by his actions. Having long been supportive of decentralized leadership concepts, he hoped that an anarchist system would help Jasmine Island become truly independent from outside influences which he generally deemed to be exploitative. After becoming influenced by Xai Bau, however, Isonash became much more extreme, doubting his past restraint and considering radical actions to further his cause.
