Layout and description

Towns and villages are built on the plains, usually visible from a distance and located along a river, against a mountain, or directly on the edge of a forest.[1]

Locations

Ume's workshop

Ume, an inventor and architect from the Earth Kingdom, owned a workshop in the Earth Kingdom plains. Ume's workshop was usually described as "a cacophony of zips and zaps and steam an the occasional small explosion". There was also the tinkling of wind chimes and whirring weathervanes, as Ume loved to know which direction the wind blew. Riveted metal panels made up the central structure of a massive treehouse, which was surrounded by small tents of mismatched fabrics. A system of platforms, attached to pulleys and thick hemp rope, allowed Ume to traverse from tent to tent, and from branch to branch.

Ume had a tent for every purpose: a breakfast tent, a reading tent, a meditation tent, a tent in which to exclaim success, a meeting tent that rarely got used, among others. Her most important activity was her work as an inventor and architect, the allocated tent being the central metal structure.[1]

Sparrowkeet Station

Main article: Sparrowkeet Station

Sparrowkeet Station was a once-prosperous town built around a refueling post for Sparrowkeet Air. Inhabited by a blended group of citizens drawn to the area's prosperity, it was one of the few locations which did quite well for itself during the Hundred Year War. Since the Fire Nation left the Earth Kingdom and the number of dirigibles dropped significantly, the town station went belly-up. Most inhabitants left to seek fortune elsewhere and those who stayed struggled to keep their community afloat. More enterprising inhabitants tapped the former station for fuel, selling canisters to anyone who passed by with enough money to pay. Despite its rickety appearance, the inhabitants of this ghost town came alive when a big spender rolled through. Most who decided to stay happily remembered the days of affluence in the town and clinged to the idea that Sparrowkeet Station could once more regain its glory.[1][2]
