Chuan was a firebending teacher on the Fire Nation's Karr Lok Island during the era of Szeto. She was famed for her success in teaching young students, as her pupils achieved considerable success in bending tournaments.

History

At one point, Chuan began working as a firebending teacher at Sunray Academy. She earned a fearsome reputation for her martial abilities and skill as an instructor. Usually, she only taught students who had reached at least eighth grade.[1] One group of Chuan's students formed a team dubbed "Flame Throwers" and won the Fire Nation-wide bending tournament, earning them the reputation of being Karr Lok Island's best firebenders.[1][2]

Four years after the national victory of the "Flame Throwers", Chuan was seeking new students for an upcoming regional tournament. She noticed that no firebending fifth graders were volunteering for the competition. Chuan thus organized a small demonstration for the fifth graders in one of Sunray Academy's training rooms, with a group of sixteen-year-old students battling and easily defeating a team of sixth graders. Afterward, she mounted the stage and addressed the eleven-year-old students in the audience, declaring her intention to form a team of fifth graders for the regional tournament. The audience was not enthused, as any volunteers would have to fight older students, a daunting prospect, as the previous demonstration had shown.[1]

To make her idea more palatable, she announced that the regional competition offered a victory prize of one hundred gold pieces and her readiness to personally train the team of fifth graders. To Chuan's satisfaction, one young student, Adaki, promptly volunteered himself and his friends Jiyung, Aera, and Sujun.[1]

Abilities

Chuan was regarded as physically powerful and a very capable firebending master. She had a high reputation as a teacher.[1]
