Hisa was a Fire Nation native. After the death of two acquaintances, she started to take care of their three children and migrated with them to Republic City.[1]

History

Hisa grew up in a village in the Fire Nation. As a result of her experiences there, she developed a dislike of the police and a general distrust toward others. At one point, two of her acquaintances died. She subsequently took in their orphaned children, Jian, Kibi, and Ming Ming; the three soon started to call her "Auntie". As the latter's parents had always wished to raise them in the United Republic of Nations, Hisa moved to Republic City along the three. In doing so, she was assisted by an old friend, Hai Jun, and wanted him to stay with the small group.[1]

Eventually, Hai Jun disappeared from his hotel in Republic City. Suspecting the reason for this, Hisa sought to protect her new family by forbidding Jian, Kibi, and Ming Ming from searching their friend or contacting the Republic City Police. However, the children disobeyed and tried to open a missing person case at the police headquarters. Hisa followed them, and angrily stormed into the station, scolding them for their actions and trying to cut off their conversation with a local detective, Mako. When the latter asked her to stay and explain the situation, Hisa claimed that no one had gone missing. As she took the children away, Hisa warned Mako to leave them alone.[1]
