Biographical information

Yee grew up in New Jersey and went to school in New England, but later moved to Colorado.[2] Outside of writing, he practices Capoeira and has a day job "mostly involving spreadsheets".[3] Yee is of Chinese and Korean descent.[4] He has stated that "F. C. Yee" is his real name and the "F" does not stand for anything, being just an "F" with nothing after it on his birth certificate. He likes to tell people it stands for "football club".[5]

Trivia

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender was a huge inspiration on Yee's work, specifically with "how action can tell a story".[6]
  • Yee is a fan of Gene Luen Yang's work.[6]
  • Yee's favorite characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are Toph Beifong[7] and Tenzin, respectively.[8]
  • Yee's favorite episodes from Avatar: The Last Airbender are The Blind Bandit and The Ember Island Players.[7] His favorite episode of The Legend of Korra is Welcome to Republic City.[8]
  • When Yee considered becoming a television writer, he wrote a speculative script for Avatar: The Last Airbender involving Sokka fighting with Wing Chun and gadgetry, similar to Asami.[9]
  • Yee was inspired by old-school kung fu movies and John Wick while writing the Kyoshi novels.[10]
  • Yee stated that if he could write for any series that he has not worked on yet, it would be Star Wars.[10]
  • After the release of The Legacy of Yangchen, Yee stated that he was unsure whether he would continue writing Avatar novels, but that if he returned to do so, he would probably focus on Avatar Szeto next.[11] The next novel after The Legacy of Yangchen, The Reckoning of Roku, was the first to not be written by Yee.[12]
  • Yee is friends with Nancy Wu, narrator of the audiobook versions of the Avatar novels.[13]
  • At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Yee stated that he would have liked to write a "Dirty Dozen"-style story set during the Hundred Year War; the protagonists would have also included a Dai Li agent who was still loyal to Avatar Kyoshi's vision of the secret agency.[14]

The sole reason he wanted to do it was to have a dai lee agent be a member in the group to show that Kyoshi made the Dai Lee to take out the earth king and not what they became, but this didn't happen because it would retcon a lot of the established canon".X.Link(accessed 27 July 2024).
