- This article is about the Jasmine Islander who served as security head. For other similar uses, see Wei (disambiguation).
Wei was the chief of Jasmine Island's protectors during the 100s AG. He played a major role during the politicial instability which plagued the island at the time, as various factions feuded amid a contested election.
History
Born in the small, independent state of Jasmine Island, Wei joined the local security forces, the "protectors", at some point. In the 90s AG, he fought against the Fire Nation military's invasion of his homeland. He vowed to make sure to never let anything similar happen to Jasmine Island, and subsequently rose in the ranks until becoming the chief of the protectors.[1]
After the Hundred Year War's end, Wei strove to shield the protectors from political interference,[1] as Jasmine Island entered a political crisis with various groups vying for control amid a hotly contested election. Many political factions demanded that the security forces should be adapted and/or greatly reduced,[2][3] while many protectors joined the developing parties.[4] Wei tried to prevent these disputes from causing strife among his forces, while emphasizing the protectors' importance as a traditional institution in public.[1]
As the election approached, it became known that someone had stolen a bag of golden jasmine seeds from the yearly harvest, a symbolically potent and highly disruptive action. Furthermore, a mission of the Order of the White Lotus under Iroh and Piandao arrived at the island, seeking the anarchist revolutionary Xai Bau.[2][3] The Jasmine Island protectors quickly started to investigate the crime and Xai Bau's whereabouts. Wei entrusted these tasks to his subordinates Ganzaya, Kim Jin, Kosui, Thaki, and Zo.[4] Besides this group's various skills, the chief also considered them well suited for this assignment due to the five belonging to different political parties, making them potentially more neutral investigators.[4][5]
Abilities
Wei was a skilled swordsman.[1]
