Zhang was a resident of Omashu who collected exotic materials. He was an old friend of a merchant named Fan.[1]
History
Zhang was a storyteller who liked collecting rare materials to use them as authentic props. He used to invent recipes and cook them with his close friend Fan, who would find new ingredients.
In winter 99 AG, he was living in a dusty dwelling in Omashu's back alley district, and was expecting a visit from Fan. Zhang noticed a group of adventurers outside of his house and mistook them for his friend, but was disappointed to see he was wrong. He hoped nothing bad had happened to Fan and was surprised when the adventurers gave him a package containing komodo sausages from Fan. Zhang worriedly asked the group how did they get the package, but his mood improved when he learned how his friend was fine, but was not allowed into the city by the guards and instead asked the adventurers to deliver the package.
Zhang told the adventurers about the times when he and Fan would cook together and then asked them to deliver a letter to his friend, along with a recipe. He also offered them tea. Once they left the city and delivered the special envelope, Fan was surprised to learn how much Zhang missed his friend, but was also happy and proud to hear he was doing well, mentioning how Zhang "has come a long way". The merchant recognized the adventurers as fellow travelers and suggested they bring Zhang exotic goods to trade.
After that, the adventurers offered Zhang some owl wolf feathers, mountain apples, and unagi fins. He thanked them profusely and wished for them to visit again soon and to stay safe, commenting how dangerous it is to get unagi fins.[1]
Personality
Zhang was friendly and kind, welcoming adventurers in his home, offering them tea and telling them about himself. He had a passion for storytelling, collecting rare goods from around the world, and cooking and inventing new recipes with his friend Fan. He appeared to be a bit shy and would easily get worried.[1]
