Biographical information
Personal life
Lin was born in Taipei, Taiwan, the son of an executive in the international food industry, and moved to the United States at the age of five. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1994, and earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1999. He joined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2015, and also serves on the Producers Guild of America's National Board of Directors.
Career
Between his first and second year at Harvard Business School, Lin undertook a summer internship with American film producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who at the time was an executive with Warner Bros. Pictures. A day after he graduated, he was offered a junior position at Warner Bros., and eventually worked his way up to become Senior Vice President of Production. During his eight year tenure at the company, Lin oversaw, among others, the Academy-Award winning film The Departed and The Aviator, both directed by Martin Scorsese.
In 2007, Lin left Warner Bros. and formed his own production company, then known as Lin Pictures and based at Warner Bros., transitioning from a development executive to producer. The company was renamed to Rideback in 2018, with Lin as CEO & Head Wrangler. The company has been involved in producing several major theatrical releases, including the Sherlock Holmes, LEGO Movie, and It franchises, and the live-action remake of Aladdin, which earned over $1 billion in worldwide box office. Their television productions include Forever in 2014, Lethal Weapon in 2016, and more recently Walker, a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger, in 2021.
In the summer of 2022, Lin was rumoured to be taking over as head of DC Films, but the move ultimately did not occur.[2] On February 28, 2024, it was announced that Lin would depart Rideback to take over as Netflix's head of film, beginning on April 1.[3]
