Mochi is a dessert prepared in the Fire Nation and its colonies. It is a chewy rice cake that is often made for special occasions, such as birthdays.[1]
History
When Mai was a child, Michi prepared mochi for Mai's grandmother's seventieth birthday, specifically telling Mai and her friends not to touch it. Azula encouraged Mai and Ty Lee to steal the mochi, which her friends went along with. However, Ty Lee was worried about negative energies, and Mai refused to touch it, leaving Azula to consume the dessert by herself. That night, Mai tossed and turned in her sleep, fearing that the Kemurikage would come to get her for stealing the mochi.[2]
In the summer of 100 AG, Sokka bought two packs of mochi, along with various other snacks, from one food vendor in the Fire Nation. When he was mistaken for a substitute teacher, the children at a local school stole the mochi.[3]
One Earth Kingdom member of the Yu Dao Resistance cited the fact that his local mochi vendor was of Fire Nation descent as a reason for believing that those of Fire Nation heritage should not be forced to evacuate the colonies.[1]
