Lei Fang was an ambitious daofei during the lifetime of Avatar Kyoshi. As a former bruiser of the Triad of the Golden Wing, Lei Fang went on to become the leader of a new group known as the Fanged Mercenaries.[1]

History

Lei Fang served as a bruiser under the Triad of the Golden Wing. When Avatar Kyoshi disrupted the gang and had Mok arrested, Lei Fang managed to flee as the rest of the gang scattered. He founded a new mercenary group, and invited several old gang members to join him. It wasn't long before the Triad of the Golden Wing's former second-in-command, Hana, joined him, and they formed the Fanged Mercenaries together.[1]

Over the next two years, Avatar Kyoshi formed a task force to root out violent daofei. Lei Fang took a mercenary route, where he and his followers would work for other daofei groups but remain out of sight. After the Avatar left to deal with important business outside Ba Sing Se, the anti-corruption task force started arresting any daofei in the Lower Ring of Ba Sing Se thanks to the Earth King's influence, and Lei Fang saw an opportunity. Instead of serving different daofei gangs, he would target those who did not work with him and build an empire out of those who remained. Together with Hana, he devised a plan to commit crimes across the Lower Ring and set up their rivals to take the fall, offering succor to anyone who remained. This plan worked exceedingly well, and they eliminated several gangs across the Lower Ring.[2] He primarily used the Wood Frog Lumberyard in the Lower Ring as a hideout to evade the task force.[3] He also had a secret plan to start bribing the task force to look the other way when the Mercenaries took action, and kept this from Hana.[1]

When an ex-daofei and thief named Mengyao realized what the Fanged Mercenaries were up to, she tried to put a stop to it. Hana proposed that the Fanged Mercenaries kidnap Gerel and Keiko, the children of Ambassador Quin of the Fire Nation, and subsequently frame Mengyao for the crime. He entrusted the Mercenaries with taking good care of the children and keeping them fed, as he planned to pretend they had found them, and exchange them for a reward.

Personality

Lei Fang was tough and ambitious, but was not as ruthless as his second-in-command, who could very easily turn to hurting others. While Hana wanted to become the premier daofei of the Earth Kingdom, Lei Fang's ambitions only extended to the Lower Ring of Ba Sing Se. He had certain moral lines that he would not cross, such as harming children.[4]

Abilities

Lei Fang was a skilled bruiser, and was proficient at unarmed fighting. He could land a powerful punch against others and stand strong for a long time against others' attacks.[1]
