History
The komodo rhino was first domesticated by the Fire Nation during the Pho Zel Dynasty.[3]

During the Hundred Year War, the Fire Nation used these creatures as cavalry mounts[4][5][6] or as beasts of burden,[7] often decorating them in red. Komodo rhinos were used in almost every Fire Nation military operation of this war, such as the Siege of the North[8] and the invasion of the Fire Nation,[9] although they were most prominently used by the Rough Rhinos.[10][11] Because of their widespread use by the Fire Nation Army, Fire Nation boot camps had an exercise designed to train new recruits in how to mount and ride a komodo rhino.[12]
Anatomy
The komodo rhino has a thick, "tough as steel" hide,[13] which serves as natural protection for its body as well as immunity from a majority of physical attacks including most blades. Spears and swords have been noted to break on its back hide, which make komodo rhinos angrier. Three large, curved horns dominate its face; two curving down from its forehead and one curving upward from its snout.[14] The horns are strong enough to easily punch through hard surfaces when used by the animal in a charge.[15]
The creature's mouth and jaw structure look somewhat reptilian, but the small ears on either side of its head are mammalian. Its torso resembles that of a rhinoceros but ends in a long, lizard-like tail. The rhino's feet are short, muscular, and clawed.[1][16]
Behavior

Komodo rhinos are believed to embody the spirit of Fire Nation soldiers: They are aggressive, disciplined, and feared.[17] Even without a rider, komodo rhinos can cause destruction, unaided and unprompted.[18] They are quite fast, rivaling eel hounds when charging at short distances. However, their aggression is usually increased by training for warfare; wild komodo rhinos tend to be more docile than domesticated ones, only exhibiting extreme fury when their babies are threatened.[15]
Connection
The komodo rhino resembles both of its namesakes, the Komodo dragon and the rhinoceros,[13] as well as the ceratopsid dinosaurs, a group that includes Triceratops, Styracosaurus, and Chasmosaurus. The horn configuration of the komodo rhino is based on that of the rhinoceros beetles.[19] It also resembles the real-life cryptid, Emela-Ntouka, with the only difference being that Emela-Ntouka is described as having only one horn.
