Dark Horse Comics is a publication company founded in 1986 by Mike Richardson that provides services for a number of notable corporations, particularly those involved in the comic book industry. Dark Horse Comics has collaborated with Nickelodeon and Comicraft on a number of occasions, including on works of the Avatar franchise, starting with Avatar: The Last Airbender—The Art of the Animated Series in 2010.

History

In 1980, Richardson opened a comic-book store, Pegasus Books, in a small town in Oregon. The business took off, but Richardson became frustrated by the lack of quality in the products he was selling and, using funds from his retail operation, set up Dark Horse Comics in 1986. Since then, the company has published many comics, including collaborations with DC Comics and Marvel, and has also worked on numerous Star Wars comics. In 2011, for their 25th anniversary, Dark Horse Comics opened up an e-book shop for all of their comics.[1]
