The captain of Lao Beifong's guards was responsible for the security of their patron and his possessions in Cranefish Town, most importantly the Earthen Fire Refinery. A nonbending, dutiful, and experienced fighter and commander, she was crucially involved in combating the insurgency of Liling's bending supremacist movement in 102 AG with the help of Team Avatar.

History

The guard captain and her companions were hired after the Earthen Fire Refinery's previous security, the Rough Rhinos, quit alongside many workers in opposition to new machinery which had rendered bending obsolete in the production process.[2] Although a nonbender, she and the guards under her command were tough fighters who had experience in fighting benders.[1]

On the day in 102 AG when Team Avatar arrived in Cranefish Town, the captain and three other guards escorted their boss Lao Beifong to meet the newly arrived Avatar Aang. Soon after encountering Team Avatar, two gangs, an earthbender and a firebender gang, started to clash on the nearby street, resulting in a destructive battle. The captain and the other guards used their shields to protect Lao and Sokka from rogue earth projectiles. She reassured her boss by telling him that the guards "got this". After the clash had ended, the guards escorted Lao and his guests back to an ostrich horse carriage which they guarded as it brought the group to Cranefish Town Business Council's meeting place.[2]

Team Avatar eventually revealed that the town's rising tensions between benders and nonbenders had been manipulated by councilwoman Liling, resulting in her imprisonment at the Earthen Fire Refinery. A group of bending supremacists under Liling's daughter Yaling consequently attacked the refinery to free Liling. Lao's guards alongside Sokka and Suki were the only ones left to protect the place. Before the assault began, the captain urged one of her troopers to contact the Avatar to bring him to the refinery. A fierce battle erupted, and the nonbenders were quickly outmatched by the bending supremacists. The guard captain unsuccessfully attempted to ambush Yaling from behind during the fighting, but missed with her baton. Yaling responded by taunting her and urging her to surrender, claiming that she had no chance against earthbending. The captain refused to budge, shielding herself from an earth missile with her shield before being struck at the arm by another. While the captain lost her footing, Yaling bent the ground to throw her back. Badly hurt, the captain was unable to stop Yaling from taking the keys to Liling's cage and freeing the supremacist leader.

After the attack, the captain was tended to by Katara who healed her arm. The captain apologized that her troops had been overwhelmed, and expressed anxiety about what Liling would do now that she was free again. She asked if Katara could ask Suki to teach the guards chi-blocking to better combat the bending supremacists during the next confrontation. The waterbender complied, and the captain as well as her troopers consequently started training under Suki's guidance, proving to be quite talented. The captain and Suki quickly developed a good working relationship.

The captain easily defeated the firebending criminal.

The next day, the guards' training was put to the test as Liling's rebels assaulted the Earthen Fire Refinery. The supremacists were lured into a maze where they had to split up. The captain, Suki, and several guards ambushed one rebel group. The captain personally dueled a firebending criminal, easily defeating her by using her new chi-blocking skills. After the supremacists had surrendered and been immobilized, Suki congratulated the captain on her "nice work", prompting the guard to thank the Kyoshi Warrior for teaching her. Later on, the captain oversaw the battle's aftermath and the prisoners.[2]
