Aputi was a Jasmine Islander anarchist activist and prominent member of the Autumn Leaves, a political faction during the 100s AG. Unlike many other anarchists of the time, Aputi was strongly opposed to the violent ideology espoused by Red Lotus founder Xai Bau, instead arguing that anarchism could only succeed through grassroots community work.
History
A nonbending native of the small, independent Jasmine Island, Aputi came to disdain her homeland's traditional elites and authority figures such as the Jasmine Island protectors for a variety of reasons. As a result, she became part of the state's developing anarchist movement after the Hundred Year War.[1][2] When some anarchists under Isonash banded together and formed a group dubbed the "Autumn Leaves", Aputi joined their ranks to help reform Jasmine Island's system on anarchist principles.[1][3] From the start, Aputi mainly focused on community work instead of high-brow politics or grand strategy, helping to organize marginalized people on the island and mobilize cooperative initiatives for immediate benefits.[1] She eventually rose to Isonash's de facto deputy.[4]
Meanwhile, new elections for the island's ruling council were announced, causing various political factions including the Autumn Leaves to bitterly feud in an attempt to gain the electorate's support. Amid this growing political crisis, White Lotus anarchist Xai Bau visited the island and secretly forged connections with islanders who were inclined to revolutionary change, including Isonash and a few others.[3][5] As a rising star among the Autumn Leaves, Aputi was also allowed to meet Xai Bau, but she was disgusted by the latter's support for violent revolutionary acts.[1][5]
Aputi was horrified as the Autumn Leaves increasingly moved toward Xai Bau's belief system even after the radical philosopher had left Jasmine Island.[1][5] Nevertheless, she continued to focus on community work such as by organizing a meeting of repair people with islanders seeking help in neglected tasks. This event was a considerable success, greatly boosting Aputi's reputation among the local population.[1] The political crisis on Jasmine Island eventually continued to escalate when it became known that someone had stolen a bag of golden jasmine seeds from the yearly harvest, a symbolically potent and disruptive action.[3] The Jasmine Island protectors quickly started to investigate the crime, regarding the Autumn Leaves as potential suspects. A team of protectors, consisting of Ganzaya, Kim Jin, Kosui, Thaki, and Zo visited the group's headquarters, where Aputi offered to show them around.[2][6] At the time, she also expressed her dislike for Xai Bau and told the protectors that the militant had departed the island weeks or months ago.[2]
Personality
Aputi mainly saw any political activity as means to find and address problems, regarding an anarchist system as effective to achieve this goal. Thus, she had little sympathy for Xai Bau's extremism, deeming it to be unconstructive and just harmful to Jasmine Island's people.[1][5] Regardless, she was a "true anarchist" and disliked traditional authority figures, viewing them as both prideful and incompetent.[2][4]
