Aisha and Layla were Dr. Jan's daughters and sisters of Xuan. They acted as delivery girls for the Silver Fangs. Layla was the future heiress to Hu Yuan Apothecary.

History

Aisha and Layla were born into a family of medical professionals in Ba Sing Se.[2][3] Their mother Jan was a doctor who ran the Hu Yuan Apothecary, with the building also acting as the family home. They had a younger brother named Xuan.[4][1] In their early youth, Aisha and Layla would force Xuan to play dress-up with them. As a result, he became able to easily braid their hair.[5] When their father left Ba Sing Se to journey to Taku in an effort to find a cure to a fever affecting refugees, he asked the three siblings to look out for each other. Tragically, their father never returned, as he was killed when his caravan was attacked by the Fire Nation military on the way to Taku.[3]

At some point, Dr. Jan decided that Layla would take over Hu Yuan Apothecary in the future.[2] Layla or Aisha also sometimes acted as delivery girls for the Silver Fangs. When one of them was sick, their route was taken up by Jin.[6]

After the Fire Nation takeover of Ba Sing Se, Layla and Aisha hid in the ruins of Hu Yuan Apothecary with other Silver Fangs members. When Jin snuck into the ruins to find Dr. Jan and began being treated by Xuan, Layla walked in on them, initially mistaking Jin for an unwanted trespasser.[4] When she realized that Jin and Xuan were acquainted, she began to tease Xuan for getting close to a girl, before getting a pair of her shoes for Jin to wear. When she learned that Xuan was going out to treat Gong-gong, she worried over his safety with the Fire Nation military prowling the city.[1]

Personality

Layla seemed to enjoy teasing her younger brother. She worried about his safety when she learned he would be venturing out into Fire Nation-dominated territory, but still let him go, simply asking Jin to take care of him.[1]
